Maurice Ernest Scully is the founder, partner and Head of the Litigation department in Messrs. Scully Yoon.

In the initial stages of his career, Maurice attended to litigation matters wherein he learnt various methods of drafting pleadings, statement of claims, defences and counterclaims, preparation of affidavits, summary judgment applications and interlocutory applications, and execution proceedings such as writ of seizure and sale, winding up and bankruptcy proceedings. The litigation work undertaken by Maurice then comprised mainly of housing loan and banking facilities recovery, hire-purchase and land related matters.

Maurice has also assisted in criminal matters such as offences relating to possession of drugs, gaming, assault, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft, robbery and habeas corpus applications, amongst others.

Maurice currently practises in various aspects of litigation mainly in the areas of banking, company, commercial and construction law. He also takes in assignments in corporate and commercial matters such as share-financing agreements, joint venture of land agreements, acquisition of shares agreements, maintenance and service agreements for telecommunications equipment, distributorship agreements, agency agreements, partnership agreements, software-systems project agreements and investment agreements.

Ronnie Yoon Kok Seng is the founding partner and Head of the Corporate and Conveyancing department in Messrs. Scully Yoon. Ronnie has throughout his career practised mainly in the areas of civil & criminal litigation and currently is specialising in civil litigation, conveyancing and corporate work in Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to this, Ronnie has worked and held different positions in a number of law firms throughout Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Johor Bahru, gaining wide exposure and experience in the practice of law covering primarily corporate, banking, conveyancing and civil litigation matters in the Magistrates Courts, Sessions Courts, High Court and Court of Appeal.

Ronnie has acquired extensive experience in diverse legal matters such as contracts disputes resolution, defamation, medical negligence, family law matters, intellectual property disputes, banking facilities documentations, loan and security documentations, sale and purchase agreements, leases and tenancies, transfers, assignments, various commercial contracts pertaining to sale and purchase of businesses or shares, trust deeds, Shareholders Agreements and drafting of wills, probate and administration of estates, power of attorney and a wide range of business contracts and agreements including but not limited to joint venture agreements, partnership agreements and building contracts.

Sharifah Zubaidah

Sharifah Zubaidah joined Messrs. Scully Yoon as a partner in 2004. Working closely with Ronnie Yoon, she currently assists in the Corporate and Conveyancing Department.

Sharifah has worked with a number of different legal firms including Messrs. Cheng & Associates, Messrs Adnan, Sundra & Low and Messrs. Rajes Hisham Pillai & Gopal.

With an emphasis on corporate and conveyancing matters, Sharifah is in charge of handling security documentation for various banks and financial institutions, drafting and/or preparing wills and trust deeds, rendering legal opinions on offshore banking and commercial transactions and attending to sale and purchase agreements for developers projects, individual sub-sale agreements, leases and tenancies, commercial and industrial property transactions etc.

Wong Mi-Li

Wong Mi-Li came on board Messrs Scully Yoon in 2006 as an advocate & solicitor in the Corporate and Conveyancing Department. In June 2007, she was elevated and appointed as a partner of the firm.

Having held various positions in different legal firms, Mi-Li has been exposed to and has practised many different aspects of corporate and conveyancing law.

Her experience includes handling sale and purchase agreements for various developers' projects, preparing loan documentation for banks and financial institutions and drafting of corporate agreements, preparation of documentation for appeal matters in the Court of Appeal, bankruptcy proceedings, application for probate as well as letters of administration of estates. Mi-Li also has experience in drafting a variety of contracts and corporate agreements including but not limited to Shareholders Agreement, Exclusive Distribution Agreement, Employment Contracts, Franchise Agreements and various other commercial contracts and business agreements.

Shirley Lim Lian Huay

Shirley Lim Lian Huay started her career as a Legal Officer in Malaysian Central Depository Sdn Bhd (now known as Bursa Depository Sdn Bhd). Eventually, she held managerial positions with its holding company, the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (now known as Bursa Malaysia Berhad). During her tenure, she assisted and also handled a variety of legal matters including : Drafting of corporate agreements; Interpreting the Securities Industry (Central Depositories) Act 1991; Rendering legal advice on the securities laws, corporate laws and matters relating to the Malaysian Companies Act 1965; Oversaw all legal compliance matters with regard to the Stock Exchange; Supervised all investigations conducted on breaches of the Rules and claims made against the compensation fund of the Malaysian Central Depository.

Shirley was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in July 2005 and was subsequently employed by Messrs. Scully Yoon as a legal assistant. She currently assists Ronnie Yoon in corporate and conveyancing matters.

Lee Kok Phong

Prior to joining Messrs. Scully Yoon, Lee started his legal practice with Rashid Zulkifli as a chambering student on 27th November 2007. He read in the chambers of Encik Zulkifli Tanabalan and gained vast exposure in areas such as corporate litigation and general litigation under the guidance of Encik Abdul Rashid Ismail. Rashid Zulkifli was at the material time mainly a litigation firm focusing on two major areas of practice such as corporate litigation and banking litigation.

Lee was subsequently called to the Malaysian Bar on 29th October 2008 and joined Messrs David Gurupatham & Koay on 10th November 2008 as a Legal Assistant. During his employment with Messrs David Gurupatham & Koay, he was assigned by the partner to assist a senior litigation lawyer in the management and operation of the firm. As a result thereof, Mr. Lee has gained wide experience and vast exposure in areas such as :-

  1. Construction & Engineering disputes ;
  2. Maritime Law ;
  3. Commercial Law ;
  4. Divorce and Family Law matters ;
  5. Criminal Law ;
  6. Corporate Conveyancing ; and
  7. Franchising.

Lee has also conducted full trials and interlocutory hearings for the firm during his tenure as a Legal Assistant with Messrs David Gurupatham & Koay.

On 1st July 2009, Lee joined the firm of Messrs Scully.Yoon as a litigation Legal Assistant and currently he is assisting the partners of the firm in attending and conducting trials and hearings in the High Court, Sessions Court and Magistrates’ Courts.
